Helpful Wedding Invitation Tips

Order Extra Invitations
When ordering invitations, please order ten (10) extra inside and outside envelopes & invitations per 100. There are several reasons in doing this. First, there is always the possibility that you’ve [inadvertently] left off a guest, you may need some extras for a scrapbook, some will be returned – they moved and didn’t tell you! Also, the calligrapher does make errors.
An ounce of prevention … Is cheaper than reordering your invitations.

RSVP Card Tracking
It is not uncommon for people not to know how to complete an RSVP card. If this is the case, they will return the card, blank. You now have no idea who it was from. To prevent this, there is a simple tracking method. Assign each invitation guest a number. Print that number on the back of the RSVP card in very small font so that it goes virtually unnoticed.

Addressing and Stuffing Your Invitations
Do you know it takes approximately one hour to address 35 wedding invitations using handwriting; 20 using calligraphy? Add an additional one hour to stuff 100 invitations (inside & outside envelopes). The average wedding of 150 envelopes, can take up to 10 hours to complete from start to finish.

I often have comments like, "I wish I would have spent to the money to have someone do this for me. I just didn't realize how much work is involved." It is a lot of work, but I thoroughly enjoy addressing invitations and all that it entails.

Calligraphers can also address your invitations in everyday handwriting. It will certainily save you the time and energy involved in completing this laborious task. This request is quite common, so don't be afraid to ask!

Check Those ZIPs
Take time to thoroughly complete your list, to include complete names & family members, addresses with Lane, Drive, Court, etc. Be sure to double check the zip codes, which can be done at the ZIP+4 Code Look-up. This is the number one reason invitations are returned.

Should your guest list be sent to A Written Treasure with out Address Verification; client will be charged $.25 per unit requiring verification.

Etiquette
I refer to Crane’s Wedding Blue Book. The Styles and Etiquette of Announcements, Invitations, and Other Correspondences. Please visit Crane's to purchase a copy.

Wedding Address List
If you have not started your address list, you may use this form (Microsoft Excel format) to compile it. If you already have an address list, please be sure that all required fields exist (as seen in the downloadable form). Please contact me if you have your list in a format other than Microsoft Excel. List must be completed prior to commencing calligraphy work - incomplete lists will not be accepted. (If you experience difficulty opening the form, right click on the link, then choose Save Target As.)
